As au pair you take part in a cultural exchange program.

In other words, in exchange for helping out with childcare duties and light housework (25-35 hours), you are welcomed as a member of the family and given full board accommodation and pocket money (from £100/week for 25h).

As the au pair position is based on childcare – it is very important that you have genuine interest in children and childcare in addition to travelling. You will need to demonstrate your previous experience by supplying written references. Some help with light household duties is also expected (most of our families already have cleaners for the heavier cleaning duties).

Travelling abroad as an au pair provides you a safety net throughout your travel & stay as you will have both the support from us (your agency) and your host family.

Smartaupairs interviews all families before accepting them for the au pair programme – which means that each family must also comply and agree with their own program guidelines. Again, to make the experience safer and more transparent for both parties.

  • Full board and daily food
  • 2 full days off/week (normally the weekends)
  • 2 week’s paid leave for every 6 months worked
